Even with remote learning, some of our teachers are still incorporating hands-on activities. Our 9th grade social studies students are currently learning about World War I and were given several creative options to complete for yesterday’s snow day assignment. If they were brave enough to go out into the cold, they could recreate WWI scenes using the snow. They could also choose to make a war-era recipe inspired by government rationing policies, or if they preferred to stay warm and cozy on the couch, they could create a group chat-style message exchange between WWI characters from different backgrounds. Nice work teachers and kids!

Tomorrow evening’s District Spelling Bee is canceled due to the ongoing winter weather and poor road conditions. The district will use the makeup inclement weather date for the District Spelling Bee. The District Bee will now be held on February 5, 2026, at 6:00 pm at the Fort Frye High School auditorium. Thank you.

Fort Frye will be closed tomorrow on Thursday, January 29, 2026. This is school closing day #10. There will be remote learning tomorrow, January 29. Tomorrow will be our last remote learning day then we will switch to make-up days if there are more school closings. Please contact the school principal or superintendent with questions. As of Wednesday, January 28, Fort Frye Local Schools has been closed 9 school days due to inclement weather. The district will continue using remote learning through school day closing #10. Starting with school day closing #11, the district will have make-up days. There will not be any remote learning starting with school closing day #11. The current school calendar that is available on our website lists days that will be used for make-up days if necessary. The first possible make-up day is Monday, February 16, if the district reaches school closing day #11 before then. The next make-up days would be during spring break. Sparks are Flying! 🔥🔨Today, our workshop was buzzing with energy as our 1st year WSCO high school welding students stepped into the role of mentors for visiting 8th graders! 🤝✨As these 8th graders begin to navigate their future high school career pathways, they got a front-row seat (and some hands-on time!) to see what a future in welding looks like. There is nothing quite like a peer-to-peer connection to make a career path feel real. Why this matters:
Hands-On Discovery: 8th graders get to explore high-demand skills like MIG and stick welding (we will have them visit again later in the spring for SMAW welding) before they even set foot in high school.
Leadership in Action: Our 1st-year students are already building confidence and communication skills by teaching what they’ve learned. Additionally, they showcased the steps to earning a GMAW Lincoln Electric Credential, which some have already earned and the rest of the class is working toward.
Future-Focused: "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn". By involving these future students today, we are helping them build a roadmap for tomorrow.
Seeing our Welding students share their passion for metalwork with the next generation is what Career and Technical Education (CTE) is all about. Whether they choose the shop or another path, today was all about opening doors and sparking interest! 🚀⚡
