Fort Frye Local Schools plans to reopen on Monday, February 2. Due to snow and ice conditions in the parking lot area of Twin River Baptist Church, the Fort Frye shuttle bus stop that is normally at that church will temporarily be at the Opportunity School in Devola, which is the old Putnam Elementary Building. That address is 598 Masonic Park Road in Marietta. The district will send out a notification when we are able to switch back to the church for this shuttle bus stop. Thank you.

Students from Fort Frye High School attended AOMC’s Discover Battle Bots workshop on Friday, January 23, joining several other local schools for an immersive, STEM-focused experience at the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers’ Coalition facility in Marietta. The event brought together students from Belpre, Fort Frye, Caldwell, Warren, and Wolf Creek to learn about the Battle Bots competition and the engineering process behind one-pound combat robots. Students explored how teams design, plan, and prepare for competition, gaining insight into the rules, strategies, and technical requirements involved. Throughout the day, students and teachers participated in hands-on learning sessions covering soldering, advanced 3D modeling and design, 3D printing, controller programming, and manufacturing concepts used in competitive robotics. Led by AOMC interns, technical trainers, and industry partners, the workshop highlighted real-world problem-solving and engineering skills while exposing students to potential career pathways in advanced manufacturing and technology. The experience generated strong excitement and momentum, and Fort Frye will have teams competing in the AOMC Battle Bots competition this May, applying what they learned as they move from concept to creation.

Even with remote learning, some of our teachers are still incorporating hands-on activities. Our 9th grade social studies students are currently learning about World War I and were given several creative options to complete for yesterday’s snow day assignment. If they were brave enough to go out into the cold, they could recreate WWI scenes using the snow. They could also choose to make a war-era recipe inspired by government rationing policies, or if they preferred to stay warm and cozy on the couch, they could create a group chat-style message exchange between WWI characters from different backgrounds. Nice work teachers and kids!
